Complete Guide to HER & HEAR Rebates: Save Big on Home Energy Upgrades

**Estimated read time:** 7 minutes Home Efficiency Rebates (HER) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) Rising energy bills and outdated home systems are pushing many Colorado homeowners to look for smarter solutions. **HER & HEAR rebates** make high-efficiency HVAC, electrical, and home energy upgrades far more affordable by reducing upfront costs. If you are planning to replace an old system or improve comfort, this guide explains how HER & HEAR rebates work, who qualifies, and how to take advantage of these savings with confidence. ## What Are HER & HEAR Rebates and Why They Matter HER and HEAR rebates are Colorado energy incentive programs designed to help households lower energy consumption and transition to efficient electric systems. HER focuses on whole-home efficiency improvements that reduce total energy use, while HEAR supports electrification upgrades such as heat pumps and electrical panels. These rebates are administered through the Colorado Energy Office and supported by federal energy initiatives. Qualified households can receive thousands of dollars in savings when upgrades are completed by an authorized contractor. One of the biggest advantages of these programs is how rebates are applied. Instead of paying full price and waiting for reimbursement, the rebate amount is applied directly to your project. This structure lowers financial risk and makes upgrades more accessible for homeowners and renters who want immediate relief from high utility costs. ## How the HER & HEAR Rebate Process Works The rebate process follows a clear, structured path to ensure compliance and verified energy savings. 1. **Application Submission** Homeowners or renters submit an application through the Colorado Energy Office portal to confirm income eligibility. 2. **Contractor Coordination** Once approved, the authorization is shared with a certified contractor who can reserve rebate funds. 3. **Home Energy Assessment** A professional assessment identifies qualifying upgrades and estimates energy savings. 4. **Installation Approval and Work** After receiving a notice to proceed, the contractor completes the approved upgrades. 5. **Quality Review and Rebate Application** Documentation is reviewed and rebates are issued directly to the contractor, reducing your final invoice. This process protects homeowners from unexpected costs and ensures upgrades meet program standards. ## Income Eligibility and Rebate Amounts Explained HER & HEAR rebate amounts are based on household income relative to the Area Median Income for your region. Households earning up to 80 percent of AMI generally qualify for higher rebate coverage, while those between 80 and 150 percent qualify for partial assistance. This tiered structure allows a wide range of homeowners to benefit from energy upgrades. Income verification is required early in the process, which is why working with an experienced contractor helps prevent delays or eligibility issues. ## Home Upgrades That Commonly Qualify for Rebates Many high-impact home improvements qualify for HER & HEAR rebates, including: - High-efficiency heat pump HVAC systems - Heat pump water heaters - Electrical panel and service upgrades - New wiring and circuits for electrification - Insulation, air sealing, and ventilation improvements - Whole-home efficiency projects achieving 20 to 35 percent energy savings These upgrades improve comfort, reduce monthly utility bills, and prepare homes for future energy standards. ## Important Rules to Know Before You Start To avoid losing rebate eligibility, homeowners should understand these key rules: 1. Applications must be approved before any work begins. 2. Only authorized contractors can complete rebate-eligible projects. 3. Rebates are applied as upfront discounts, not mailed later. 4. Renters must obtain landlord authorization before applying. Following these guidelines ensures a smooth process and maximizes savings. ## Special Offer: Simplify Your HER & HEAR Rebate Experience Origin Plumbing Heating Cooling Electrical helps homeowners qualify, apply, and complete rebate-approved upgrades with confidence.
