What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

Turn off power or gas, close the cold-water shutoff, and call a technician. A leak from the top often points to a bad flex connector, loose inlet/outlet nipple, T&P discharge fitting, or the anode/upper gasket. We service water heaters of all types and can respond 24/7 in Fort Collins and nearby.

Quick steps:

  • Electric: switch the breaker off. Gas: set gas control to Off/Pilot.
  • Close the cold-water valve on top of the tank.
  • Wipe dry, then note exactly where water emerges for the tech.
  • Do not open the tank or fittings yourself.
